Research and Evaluation on Firearm Violence and Mass Shootings (Exp. April 29/May 6, 2024)

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is seeking applications for funding of research and program evaluation projects specific to intervention and prevention of intentional, interpersonal firearm violence and mass shootings in the United States.

This solicitation has two categories:

1) Research on mass shootings, including insider threat and the role of news and social media platforms;

and

2) Research on the effectiveness of campaigns implemented in school systems and/or through school personnel to encourage the parents, guardians, and relatives of school-aged children to store firearms safely and securely.

Eligibility

Eligible entities include the following:

  • Independent school districts
  • Private elementary and secondary schools
  • Units of local government
  • Private, public and state-controlled institutions of higher education
  • Special district governments
  • State, county, city and township governments
  • Public housing authorities/Indian housing authorities
  • Native American tribal organizations and federally-recognized tribal governments
  • Nonprofits with or without a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education
  • For profit organizations other than small businesses

Number of Awards: 8

Award Ceiling:  $3,000,000
